The end of the year is always an opportunity to reflect on the events of the year that have gone by. Indeed, 2020 has been a more difficult year for all of us, but we must remain optimistic.
With the announcement of a second wave of infections, it is clear we need to sharpen our vigilance, especially as the peak festive season arrives. We know that relaxation and fun is part of this time of year. Our beaches remain open, but it is up to all of us to respect the national regulations that have been put in place.
The City of Cape Town has activated its annual Festive Season Preparedness Plan to ensure a safe and enjoyable time for both residents and visitors.
We must do all we can to flatten the second peak of infections so we are not declared a COVID-19 hotspot. Businesses are just getting back on their feet and some continue to feel the impact of the pandemic so please support us in our efforts to rebuild the economy. We can still safely enjoy the festive season if we practice social distancing and good hygiene, as well as wear a mask.
The continued operation of businesses and protecting livelihoods depends on these simple, but key actions.
There are many spaces within our city to safely practice socially-distanced festive celebrations and activities. Being known as an adventure city, there are also a wide range of activities to enjoy.
The City of Cape Town wishes you a Merry Christmas and a safe and happy festive season. Let us look forward to tackling the new year with enthusiasm and hope.
Season’s greetings to all!
End
